Chances are if you have seen me it was during a late night trip to the bathroom. Or maybe you were checking on the furnace in the basement during a cold winter’s night.
Perhaps you only got a quick glimpse of me, and perhaps, you mistook me for a centipede.
Who am I?
I am not a creature from your favorite sci-fi film. I am a silverfish. And I may be living closer than you think. You may not see me until your home is infested because I am nocturnal, which means I am wreaking havoc in your home while you are comfortably sleeping. I also prefer the dark, damp areas in your home, like the bathroom, basement, kitchen, and laundry room. If you think you have seen me, you better think fast because I am quick on my feet.
Maybe you prefer to not actively hunt for me at night. Ignorance is bliss, right? Well maybe if you don’t mind the damage I can do to your favorite fabrics, such as cotton, silk, and linen.
I can understand if you prefer not to think of anyone other than your family feasting on the dry goods in your pantry. However, just be prepared that there might be an unpleasant surprise one morning in your cereal or coffee.
And as for your old memories, those cherished photos so gingerly placed in photo albums may be better forgotten when you find holes in the photographs.
